Writing, Health, and a Yummy Drink

I wanted to bring you another bonus post this week, this time for something yummy, refreshing, and HEALTHY!

Don't laugh, healthy will happen from time to time on this blog.

Let's face it, if you're not eating healthy ALL OF THE TIME (which I'll admit, I don't), then sometimes the body needs a little added nutrition. Just because I enjoy cake, cookies, pie, breads, and too many other things to name, doesn't mean I can eat all I want. It can mean that I may not be consuming all the good-for-you-stuff (I'm getting technical here, so pay attention).

As a writer, I'm also sedentary for at least 4-5 hours of the day. Even with all the time I spend playing outdoors, walking the dogs, or those 30-minute workout sessions in the mornings, that's still a lot of sitting down on a daily basis! Getting up to move around every hour or two helps, but watching what I eat is equally important. I'm not going to give up the yummy goodies, but I do eat them in moderation, AND I find that a little extra nutrition helps. As my friend (also a personal trainer said), you can't out exercise a bad diet. Awful, I know, but it's true.

Does that mean all these recipes I post here are suddenly off limits? I'm sorry, did you miss the part where I said I wouldn't give up my yummy goddies? If not, reread and then continue.

Promoting health and fitness, while sharing recipes for baked goods may seem like a contradiction, but the secret to a healthy life is all things in moderation--not giving up one thing and over-doing on another.  I can attest that as a writer, sometimes things are forgotten. We sit down to write one scene and four hours later we look up not realizing how much time has passed, that we haven't moved, that we're feeling a tad dehydrated--you get the idea. Point is, the book is going well, so nothing else matters--oh how wrong!

Now, I am not a medical professional and so everything posted here does not replace the advice of a physician. Honestly I don't like to promote products unless I know for a fact that the product works, and genuinely provides positive health benefits. After months of use, I highly recommend this one. I don't necessarily mean that everyone should go out and purchase Shentrition, but it's the ingredients in it which make it so wonderful, and why I love it.

According to the website, Shentrition is:
40 Powdered Ingredients
100% All Natural.
Vegan. 60% Organic.
Filler Free. Dairy Free.
Soy Free. Grain Free.
Egg Free. Caffeine Free.
Additive Free. Scary Free.

To round out the goodness of this cleansing drink, following the dosage directions of 2 Tbs per 5oz water, I instead mix it with my morning aloe juice blend and now I can't imagine a morning without it.  All right, this post pretty much sounds like a sales pitch and I don't mind, because I would honestly recommend ShenTrition to anyone. If you have concerns about taking anything like this, just ask your doctor to see if there are any contraindications with current medications or prescriptions you may be taking.

MK's Morning ShenTrition Drink
2 Tbs ShenTrition (one scoop)
1/4 cup pure aloe juice (no fillers)
1/4-1/2 cup coconut water (preferably organic)
2-3 oz strawberry & cream Kefir (This is my flavor of choice, but the flavor and brand are my preference, as I've tried a few and this won.)
  1. Mix the coconut water and aloe juice together.
  2. Add the ShenTrition and stir until all the powder is well incorporated.
  3. Add the Kefir and stir until everything is smooth and well blended (combines well with a simple spoon-no blender required).
  4. Drink and enjoy the energy boost and healthy goodness.
This isn't just about sharing how much I like ShenTrition, because it's really about the many ways one can heal the body naturally.

And don't forget the water! Other liquids do not replace the body's daily water requirements and pure water is one of the best cleansers you can give your body. Want an added benefit? Do you remember the post about lemon water? Well, every morning, drink 8oz of hot water with fresh lemon for an extra digestive boost.

Remember, that every body is different and we all react differently to different treatments. Always be sure to find what works for you and if ever in doubt, consult with a physician.

Bonus for Writers
This drink provides a wonderful energy boost (without caffeine), not only in body, but also for the mind. Sometimes I'll drink half in the morning, and save the other half for later in the day. This is a great option if you're an afternoon or evening writer.
